Lake Pend Oreille fishing derby enters last weekend led by 23-pound mack
FISHING -- The fishing has been tougher the past few days, but anglers are still pulling out big fish, especially mackinaw, in the 70th annual Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club's K&K Spring Fishing Derby.
A new 23-pound mackinaw is the top fish caught so far and a 16-pound rainbow caught last weekend remains the top fish in that category. The event runs through Sunday, May 7, with more than $18,000 in cash and prizes in several divisions for rainbow and mackinaw.
The top fish reported so far is a mackinaw weighing 23.34 pounds and measuring 35 inches long caught by Sandpoint angler Scott Plue, who's no stranger to the top rankings of the annual Lake Pend Oreille derbies.
The top adult division rainbow continues to be a 15.90-pounder caught by Rodney Vandever of Post Falls.
Jackson Sifford, fishing in the under-9-years-old youth division, posted an impressive rainbow weighing 15.90 pounds and measuring 33.25 inches long.
