Junior angler’s 19-pound rainbow leads Lake Pend Oreille fishing derby

FISHING -- After three days of fishing, the lead the board as changed quite a bit in the 2016 Lake Pend Oreille Fall Fishing Derby, especially in the rainbow trout division.  The top fish in the competition so far is a 19-pound, 35-inch long rainbow caught by Alexis Berube in the Junior Division.

The annual event sponsored by the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club started Saturday and runs through Nov. 23 with break for Thanksgiving Day before concluding with three more days of competition on Nov. 25-27.

Anglers are competing for more than $10,000 in cash and prizes.

Here are the standings as of Monday night, Nov. 21, 2016.

  • Chris Bier - 18.22 lbs. 34.5 in.
  • Jim Carothers - 17.46 lbs.  32.5 in.
  • Brady Stewart - 11.08 lbs.  29.5 in.
  • Dietmar Krueger - 9.84 lbs. 32 in.
  • Don Salter - 9.44 lbs.  27 in.
Adult Mackinaw:
  • Gale Belgarde Jr. - 18.84 lbs. 36 in.
  • Sally Kalb - 16.70 lbs. 37 in.
