Chukar Challenge brings out rainbow of bird dog breeds

HUNTING -- This time a Lab won the prize.

In the past it's been a springer, or a German shorthair, a setter, Vizsla...

That's the beauty of the Chukar Challenge fun hunt put on every few years near Medical Lake by the Spokane Bird Dog Association.

It reminds us that all of the breeds have a gift to appreciate.

After a lot of training leading up to some excellent dog work on Saturday, the winner's prize was a big coveted jar of garlic dill pickles.

"Some people got too serious when the prize was money," said Dan Hoke, bird dog trainer and event organizer.

"This event is for the dogs."
