Catching, releasing 10-foot sturgeon especially sweet this time

FISHING -- Hells Canyon Sport Fishing guide Ryan Rosenbaum was all smiles before releasing a huge white sturgeon in the Snake River last weekend.  Even a veteran guide doesn’t often get to put clients onto a 10 footer with a 54-inch girth.

In this case, the catch-and-release team effort on a fish that might be a century old was especially sweet, he said.

"Tom and Joan have traveled to Alaska to Oregon to Idaho to fish with me for salmon steelhead and now giant white sturgeon," Rosenbaum said. "Tom lost most of his right arm when he was two and Joan just got out of the hospital, taking 10 inches out of her intestine.

"They're a reminder of how we can get things done. There's no 'can't in their vocabulary. These two love fishing more than anyone I know."
