Ranger goes to bird dog school
HUNTING -- Around 12 weeks old, after all vaccinations were completed, our Brittany pup, Ranger, was introduced to live birds.
He joined a pair of German shorthair pups owned by trainer/breeder Dan Hoke of Dunfur Kennel near Cheney.
The shorthairs have been stars in every way. Ranger found birds and pointed well but has a way to go.
Like any athletes, bird dogs have their ups and downs, and some come on earlier than others, Hoke said.
Some of the best mature dogs in the field got a slow start as pups.
Patience.
