Obama's Inauguration

Mustangs get press

The U.S. Border Patrol's Mustang Unit was far back in the Inaugural Parade -- in the fifth of six groups -- but it did get a plug in Tuesday's The Wall Street Journal.

The eight mustangs from the Inland Northwest, chosen from horses assigned to patrol posts from the eastern slope of the Cascades to the Rockies, was part of a larger unit to march from the Border Patrol that included a color guard and a bagpipe and drum band.

Danielle Suarez, a Border Patrol spokeswoman accompanying the unit, said the horses and their riders did fine on the parade. The horses had practiced with the bagpipes last week so they were used to the sounds.

A photograph of the unit at its last big event, last year's St. Patrick's Day Parade in Chicago, was used by the Wall Street Journal in its special Inauguration Section for Tuesday's paper. Suarez said a cable television channel, HD Net, also prepared a story on the unit, but that will probably air later.

The mustang unit was featured in stories in The Spokesman-Review in December. Read about them here.
