SPOKANE, Wash. (August 1, 2013)-One year ago Braeden Havens had one of the strongest cars in the NAPA Idaho 200 only to fall one position short of the victory when the checkered flag came out. Trailing Garrett Evans for the victory was one of Havens' career moments but this year the 19-year old is out to win the 14th running of the top late model race in Eastern Washington.

"Running second to Garrett was amazing. In my career it's one of the things I'll always remember because he's a great champion in the Northwest, has been doing this for so long and is so successful that anywhere you go people know who he is. This year though we're out to win the race and show we belong in the conversation as a top driver in the region," Havens said.

Havens has been strong this season behind the wheel of his Western Rail Chevrolet as he's posted eight finishes inside the top-20, six top-10's and three top-5's. Debuting a new Port City race car back in April at Wenatchee Valley's Super Oval, driver and crew know their first victory of the season is just around the corner.

"We've been solid all year with our car and the handling package prepared by Chuck Carruthers is one of the best out there. To get the win this weekend will require the team and I to put together a good qualifying effort then stay smart in the race until the late stages before we look to move into a position to challenge for the win," Havens said. "If we're out front in the late going that'd be even better but we're realistic that a lot of talent is entered this weekend so keeping a low profile is our goal until it becomes go time."

It's been a busy week for the Killer "B" Racing team as Havens tested his NASCAR K&N Pro Series Chevrolet on Wednesday at Spokane County Raceway preparing for his 2013 NASCAR debut at Evergreen Speedway on August 17. Also this week the team installed a new engine in Havens' primary car and wrapped up work on his father Todd's late model that is entered in the Idaho 200.

"A few nights this week were long and switching back and forth amongst the three cars was work for the crew and I but at the end of the week we can look back on the things we've done to be ready for the Idaho 200 and our upcoming NASCAR start and be proud of sticking together to complete everything that needed to be done," Havens noted.

Qualifying for the NAPA Idaho 200 is set for Friday night at 6 p.m. PST The 200-lap main event is scheduled for Saturday night at 9 p.m.
