Weekend racing action set for region

Stateline Speedway, Spokane Karting and Spokane County Raceway will all be open and racing Saturday night.

Stateline Speedway and Spokane County Raceway will be in action Saturday night with late model racing at both venues.

SCR hosts its first Inland Northwest Super Stock Association event of the season with stars including two-time champion, David Garber, 2007 Rookie of the Year Greg McKinley, Montana Raceway Park star Mark Owens, former INSSA champion Dan Garber and current points leader Jeff Fenton scheduled to appear.

Also on the entry list is Andrew Zimmer, a national karting champion who ran a limited schedule in 2008 but will be taking part in more INSSA and other late model events this season driving in a car once owned by NASCAR Winston Cup star, Trevor Boys.

Stateline hosts the 2009 season opener for the ICAR Late Model Series with defending champion Nathan Fleury expected to take part in defense of his title.

Current SCR rookie contender, Braeden Havens, will be making his 2009 ICAR debut. Also expected to take part in the season opener will Corey Junke, Shane Blakesley and Darryl Carillio.

The Northwest Pro-4 Truck Series is also scheduled to be part of the Stateline action along with the Speedway’s Street Stock class.

NW Pro-4 points leader, Jim Milligan, leads the group of drivers who will be making their first Stateline appearance of 2009 at the quarter-mile facility. Jeff Hector and Doug Willet, second and third in the current points standings, will be out to knock Milligan off after his win in Ephrata.

The Spokane Kart Racing Association holds its annual Promo Race on Saturday.

Interested kart racers and current teams will be able to test the five-eighth mile circuit during the afternoon event.

Next weekend SCR hosts its first Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. This will be the first time an NHRA event has run at SCR and many of the West Coast’s top teams will be in attendance.

Also returning next weekend will be the ASA Northwest Late Model Tour, which will run a 125-lap event at Stateline Speedway.
