Unfunded mandate prompts KCSO to cut gun permit hours

Effective Monday, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office will now process Concealed Weapons Permit requests Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

This scheduling change is the direct result of an unfunded State of Idaho mandate that became effective July 1. This mandate has nearly tripled the amount of No Contact Orders being processed by the Records Division of the Sheriff’s Office. Due to the priority and serious nature of these orders, the available hours for Concealed Weapon Permits applications had to be adjusted.

If you have already received a letter regarding your concealed weapons permit that directs you to return to the the Sheriff’s Office outside of our new hours, please respond according to the instructions you’ve received. We are happy to accommodate you during this transition period.

For any further questions regarding the issuance of Concealed Weapons Permits, please contact the Records Division of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office by calling 208-446-1300 and following the prompts.
