Hearn: No debate set yet 

In an email, Democrat Tom Hearn tells Huckleberries that a legislative debate, sponsored by the League of Women Voters, isn't happening. Last week, it was reported that the LWV were having trouble contacting Republican candidates. But a GOP wannabe said he'd heard nothing from the league. Is this going to be a debate-less election?

Soccer group plans indoor facility

A soccer organization will kick off a fundraising drive Saturday to build the first full-sized indoor soccer facility in North Idaho. The proposed $1.5 million complex will go in at the southwest corner of Prairie Avenue and Huetter Road on the northwest edge of Coeur d’Alene.

If you have ever wondered what a dragonfly looks like at 50 times its actual size, now you can see for yourself. The new "Dusk and Dawn" public art, installed just north of Hayden City Hall last month and dedicated on the autumnal equinox, allows spectators to appreciate these winged wonders on a much larger scale. Donald Trump would beat Hillary Rodham Clinton if votes for president were cast today, according to the election results predictor designed by top pollster Nate Silver. FiveThirtyEight’s “now-cast” model is giving Trump a nearly 10-point edge over Clinton in response to the question, “Who would win the presidency today?”

Predator strikes 

Here's all that was left of one of five, egg-laying chickens belonging to SR photog Jesse Tinsley after a predator struck this weekend. The predator carried off the urban chicken. Jesse laments that he had spent considerable time making sure the chickens couldn't get out. But he forgot to spend enough time ensuring that predators couldn't get in.

Dvorak landed in wrong airport

In a weekend editorial, Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase of the Lewiston Tribune comments that Idaho AG spokesman Todd Dvorak would still have a job if he'd flown home to Boise from Spokane instead of Lewiston. Dvorak was charged with misdemeanor pot possession when his bags were checked in Lewiston.

Social media catches tree vandals 

The five morons who vandalized a downtown tree, near Crossfit Coeur d'Alene, have been caught, thanks to social media. Their mindless act was caught on video surveillance and then circulated around the area to sites, including Huckleberries Online. The video had 200,000 views.
