I'll be gone from Huckleberries Central for about three hours today, beginning at 11 a.m. Greg Lee and I will attend that annual Spokesman-Review luncheon for compadres who have reached their 25th year of service with the company. Jim Meehan, the Gonzaga Bulldog sports scribe and long-time pal, will be among those honored today.

Ammon Bundy tells occupiers: Go home 

Ammon Bundy is encouraging his followers to abandon the occupation of a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon following his arrest on Tuesday night. Through his attorney, Bundy asked the remaining occupiers to leave the refuge and go home, KATU in Portland reported Wednesday evening.

As law enforcement surrounded the remaining protesters at an Oregon wildlife refuge Wednesday, an armed occupier urged supporters to join them and to kill any law enforcement officer who tried prevent their entry, according to a livestream that has been broadcasting from the site.

CHS suspends boys cage coach 

Coeur d’Alene boys basketball coach Kurt Lundblad must sit out a second game following a technical marred 5A Inland Empire League game last Friday at Lewiston. Lundblad received three technicals in the game, the second coming with under a minute remaining. He was assessed a third technical when he wouldn’t leave the gym in a timely manner.

Gas prices tumble 

Judy Jones savored the moment. The Post Falls woman filled her car with gas on Tuesday in Coeur d'Alene, where the average is $1.87 per gallon — 15 cents lower than a month ago. "I'm really liking these prices," she said. "They seem too good to be true." Too good to last too long at least, according to AAA.

The Hayden Burger King has flame-broiled its final burger. Late last week, store No. 11075, located at the corner of U.S. Highway 95 and Prairie Avenue, closed its doors for good. "Yes, it has officially closed in preparation for a new Panera Bread that will replace the Burger King," said Ryan Nipp of Parkwood Business Properties.
