Update: Fugitive's arrest brings tears of relief

Michaelle Dierich of Coeur d’Alene heard the news early Tuesday morning after she finished her long graveyard shift at a production plant. The fugitive wanted for kidnapping and raping her in 1988 had finally been arrested. And it may have never happened without Dierich’s persistence and courage in telling her painful story again and again.

Here's the Moscow-Pullman Daily News version of that story re: an anonymous email accusing football coach Paul Petrino and his staff of "excessive vulgar verbal reprimanding, unequal treatment and NCAA practice violations. Vandal football players have rallied around the beleaguered Petrino and his coaches.

The wheat is beginning to separate from the chaff in the Huckleberries Patch Fantasy Football League. Pro-Rand group stops fund-raising

Purple PAC, one of three super-PACs supporting Sen. Rand Paul's (R-Ky.) presidential bid, has stopped raising money, according to a Tuesday report. Ed Crane, the co-founder of the Cato Institute who oversees the super-PAC, reportedly told Politico that the lawmaker's libertarian-leaning views had "disappeared."

UI Argonaut Facebook: "University of Idaho officials announced Tuesday they have initiated an investigation into allegations against football coach Paul Petrino and the Vandal football coaching staff. The allegations were laid out in an anonymous email sent out Monday to various news outlets, UI officials and UI athletes."

Regan, IFF & Co sue RE: core standards

Brent Regan, chairman of the board of the Idaho Freedom Foundation, is the lead plaintiff in a new federal lawsuit filed against Gov. Butch Otter, state schools Superintendent Sherri Ybarra and state Board of Education President Don Soltman charging that the Idaho core standards for student learning and the tests tied to them are illegal.

Southern Idaho gem: Finger steaks tough to reproduce at home

In a column for our food section, Shawn Vestal writes: "When I visit my family in Southern Idaho, I will often get my hands on a basket of finger steaks before I hug my mother. That has more to do with geography than the order of my affections." I've heard that finger steaks are a big deal in Idaho. But dunno if that translates to North Idaho.

Poll: Most deal with noise

In Monday's poll, a lucky plurality of Hucks Nation said it didn't deal with noise issues in the neighborhood. Of the majority who did deal with noise problems in the 'hood, the largest amount had issues with barking dogs. Today's Poll: Was the sentence given the woman who fatally injured a falcon (20 hours community service + $500) adequate?
