I walked and drove through downtown Coeur d'Alene at 8 o'clock Friday night, to check the mood of the partiers after a day out in the sun on the Diamond Cup hydroplane races. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves in the restaurants, taverns and on the lawn of the Lakeside condos, where a live band was entertaining the hydroplane crowd. Nothing in the least bit rowdy. Having the races on the eastern end of the Centennial Trail, with plenty of law enforcement in plain view, and then coming back to town to relax may be the ticket for keeping the crowds tame.
