Free School Supplies Attract 400
North Idaho College wrestler Bryce Weatherston, from Belgrade, Mont., moves inventory to help provide school supplies during the morning rush of people at the giveaway event. The line of people wrapped around the block in Riverstone as people waited their turn to receive free school supplies from the North Idaho College wrestling team Thursday. About 400 people showed up as wrestlers and coaches were on hand to give out pencils, notebooks, flash drives and, even, some pizza for lunch. This is the first time the wrestlers have given away school supplies through their “We Care” program, where they raise funds through T-shirt sales and donations. The team has raised more than $6,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Coeur d’Alene through the “We Care” program. In addition, since 2002, the NIC wrestling team (2013 NJCAA national champs) has distributed more than 11,000 books to elementary students through the Shirley Parker Reading program, which was established in partnership with Parker Toyota.
