Gookin Opposes Elder Reappointment

Respected downtown businessman Jim Elder was reappointed to the Lake City Development Corp. on a 5-1 vote Tuesday evening, with Councilman Dan Gookin the lone dissenter. Gookin said he opposes the reappointment because Elder has sat on the board for 10 years. Gookin said he'd been contacted by a constituent who recommended that LCDC have a representative for the low-income housing community or a social worker who works with low-income families. Councilman Ron Edinger backed the reappointment, commenting that he has known Elder for a long time and believes he is a valuable asset to LCDC. Edinger added that he also likes Gookin's suggestion.

DFO: BTW, Jennifer Drake, one of the organizers of the anti-recall movement, and Jane Morgan were unanimously appointed by the council to the city Arts Commission.
