Shaun Winkler, a white supremacist who picketed Mexican food carts in Coeur d'Alene in 2011 and protested the annual Martin Luther King Jr. event at North Idaho College Jan. 13, is running as a Republican for sheriff of Bonner County. Incumbent Republican Sheriff Daryl Wheeler will face Ponderay Police Officer Tim Fry and white separatist and business owner Shaun Patrick Winkler, according to the Bonner County Bee. The victor in the primary will face Rocky Jordan, an independent who ran for sheriff as a Republican in 2008, in the November general election. Winkler, who is originally from Pennsylvania, had lived in Hayden before moving to Priest River last fall.  More here.
