Coeur d’Alene Pilot Killed In Crash

Mia Carlson via Big Country News Connection Twitter: A 48-year-old Coeur d'Alene man was killed yesterday in a small plane crash in a remote area of Idaho County. The Idaho County Sheriff's Office says the pilot, Jahan Ashtiani, was attempting to take off from the Moose Creek Airstrip before a thunderstorm moved into the area. During takeoff, a gust of wind caught the plane and flipped it over. Ashtiani was killed and his passenger, 49-year-old Anthony DiPaola of Evergreen, Colorado, suffered minor injuries. The men had flown into the Moose Creek area for a fishing trip. The sheriff's office says Ashtiani's family has been notified and Idaho County officials returned to the crash site and recovered his body. The investigation will continue by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
