Poolman: Private Money For Jail? No

Poolman: What is wrong with the concept of building a for profit jail in North Idaho? Here is what happens. They build the facility much larger than necessary and then bring in prisoners from other areas, charge for those services and increase the return on the private investment. What happens when you bring prisoners from other areas, you also bring in their people. Got some gangsta’s in from Compton – got some gansta’s family and friends in from Compton as well. So there is that element. Also, privatization of penal systems encourages / inspires the criminal justice system to provide more bodies to fill those prisons and generate more revenue and distracts from the real reason they exist, which last time I checked, was to protect and serve. Horrible idea for NI. Let them build one in BFE where they belong.

Question: Has Poolman prompted you to rethink your position on private funding for a new Kootenai County Jail?
