AM Scanner: Train Hits VW, Kills Man

Richard E. Kelson, 77, of Bonners Ferry died this morning near Bonners Ferry after his Volkswagen Jeffa was struck by a train on a private crossing near the city’s municipal golf course, the Idaho State Police reported. See ISP report here.

  • 11:42 a.m. A red Mazda is in the median after hitting guardrail on I-90 @ the stateline.
  • 11:14 a.m. A PFPD Blue (see photo, courtesy of a Berry Picker) reports he has someone at gunpoint involving a stolen vehicle on I-90, near Flying J/Post Falls. A highway sensor detected the stolen 2005 black pickup from Texas. A child is in the vehicle, too. W/b traffic is delayed b/c inside lane is blocked to protect arresting officers.
  • 10:57 a.m. A wildland fire is reported @ 1098 S. Gold Rush (cross of Buckboard)/CdA.
  • 10:50 a.m. An oversized load is blocking 2 lanes of traffic as it travels slowly on w/b I-90 @ MP 28.

  • 10:26 a.m. Thomas is in the KCSD lobby to report being harassed by neighbors.
  • 10:09 p.m. Robert is at Post Falls animal shelter to redeem terrier involving in dog bite.
  • 10:01 p.m. A deputy is en route to check out possible break-in in 100 block of Emerald/Hayden.
  • 9:57 a.m. Lakes Middle School, 930 15th/CdA, reports a male student is unconscious.
  • 9:53 a.m. A cow is in the middle of the road @ Idaho & Hayden/Rathdrum in open range.
  • 9:32 a.m. A suspicious light-blue Subaru is reported @ Morning Glory & Red Fir/Athol.
  • 9:23 a.m. Erica reports being bitten by a loose dog Sunday night.
  • 9:01 a.m. Water is running over road near Mennonite Church, north of Bonners Ferry.
  • 8:51 a.m. A large dog is dragging an 8-foot chain behind it @ 12th & Syringa/CdA.
  • 8:09 a.m. Deputy reports finding a bag full of food and meat, w/blood dripping from bottom; he plans to leave the bag outside Coeur d'Alene Police Department.
  • 8:01 a.m. A car w/a man in it is in the ditch near the railroad tracks on old Highway 95/Athol.
