Gazette: Lake Incident Wasn’t About Racism

But while racism is the stuff of racy reporting, last week’s dustup between the Coeur d’Alene Tribal police and a Benewah County Commissioner (Jack Buell, pictured) has a whole lot to do with jurisdiction and very little to do with race. There will come the day n we can hope n when reporters with area news outlets will come up to speed on the issue of jurisdiction when it comes to Indian tribes and non-tribal members. Perhaps when they do Governor Otter and our attorney general, Lawrence Wasden, will begin to pay attention. Until then, however, folks who read the Spokane daily newspaper will “know” that Benewah County is populated by racists/Dan Hammes, St. Maries Gazette-Record. More here.

Question: Do you agree that the incident between Jack and Eleanor Buell and Coeur d'Alene tribal police was simply a misunderstanding about jurisdition?
