Alice’s Garden Spot: Putting Your Garden To Bed

Full post here

While bears have certainly been active in some areas, I am very happy to report that my yard has been a bear-free zone this year. Zero bears sighted anywhere at Kidd Island Bay. Can't say why, because my plum and pear trees were absolutely loaded with fruit this year. Although I do have a scant apple crop. Last year I spotted my first bear in the yard on June 16, and had sightings every month until the last on September 10. My close call came in July when, while walking out on my porch looking toward my patio, I was startled to see a bear cub coming toward me about 7 feet away. I ran indoors, and looking out my window, saw his mother, on all fours, coming into sight from behind an obstruction. She had been less than 10 feet away from where I was standing. Too close for comfort/Alice Rankin, Alice's Garden Spot.
