Huckleberries Online

Inside Huckleberries — 7/7/06

5:15 p.m., Finished my first Huckleberries columnet for the Monday Handle edition, 6.8 inches about my brief meeting with popular former school superintendent Dave Rawls. And the note below about that Deanna Goodlander re-election sign posted at 7th & Harrison. It'll be interesting to see how the new style progresses.

3:35 p.m., Former Coeur d'Alene school super Dave Rawls dropped in to say hello and to say he misses the area since moving to Walla Walla. Sadly, his wife, Sandy, died about three months ago. It was good to see him. He helped turned the school district around during his tenure here.

11:45 a.m., Dan of the County tells HBO that interviews to fill the new 1st District Court judge opening are going on today. CDA attorney Steve McCrea's in the dock now. Richard Christensen, Jack Doublas, Saviraj Grewal, Lansing Haynes and Ken Howard have preceded him. Next up are Dennis Reuter and Scott Wayman this afternoon.

11:30 a.m., Sam The Intern expresses sticker shock when he sees how much of a tax bite was taken out of his first SR paycheck here, and Dang tells him about the facts of working life here.

9:22 a.m., (from last night) Digger disagrees with proposed changes: "Huckelberries won't be Huckelberries if you change it! You can't stray from your ... style of journalism in the print column! DIGGER VOTES NO!"

9:19 a.m., Gotta nice note from Mari Meehan/Dogwalk Musings re: the changes ahead for Huckleberries Print: "These changes are exciting for you and I trust for all of us. If I've learned anything over the past year is that evolution happens. You've had the wisdom to allow that without forcing it and are now
about to reap the benefits! Congratulations." Indeed, the changes will affect us all.

8:41 a.m., Reader Mari Wilder, a Seinfeld fan, pointed out the error of my ways via e-mail: "As a hardcore, east coast raised Seinfeld fan, you have incorrectly quoted the male bimbo episode. It would be "mimbo" with an "m" not an "h". You can look it up if you don't believe me. Just google the word "mimbo" and the Seinfeld quote comes up." Mari adds: "Love the blog and it's characters!"

8:20 a.m., I saw my first post-primary yard sign on my way to work today, at the corner of 7th and Harrison. Who was the offending party this viewtiful TGIF morning? City Councilwoman Deanna Goodlander, which, of course, adds to the mystery. Not only is the fall election four months off, but the next municipal election isn't until next year. Whazzup?
