Spokane Public Schools’ CyberPatriot teams advancing

Two Lewis and Clark High School teams and one from North Central will compete this weekend for a chance to go to the finals in Washington, D.C.

Rogers High School had teams that placed second and third, and will move on to a regional competition.

Sacajawea Middle School has qualified for the middle school semifinal.

CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association to encourage students in careers such as cyber security and in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields.

Students are basically taught to fight hackers or viruses that invade a server or computer system. The key for students is to know how to go in to a computer operation system and shut down certain services or install a firewall or beef up a server without disturbing the system as a whole.
