Peace Corps again gives GU top ranking

Gonzaga University is among the nation’s top-ranked Peace Corps volunteer-producing institution among “Small Colleges and Universities” for the third consecutive year.

This recognition reflects Gonzaga’s "enduring mission to produce enlightened, passionate graduates who are making a difference in the world," said Gonzaga President Thayne McCulloh. “I am so grateful to our many alumni, who have served and serve today on behalf of our nation in the Peace Corps."

GU alumna Amanda Walsh, who majored in French and international relations, is serving as a volunteer in Togo, said Gonzaga provided an excellent education that allowed her to explore many ideas and subjects.

“During my years at Gonzaga I studied a variety of subjects including ethics, religion, political science and speech,” she said. “Gonzaga taught more than just math, science, and English. The professors and community at Gonzaga teach you how to be a productive and giving member of society. Community service is strongly encouraged and Peace Corps had a visible presence on campus each year.”

Gonzaga has ranked in the top five for small schools during each of the past four years, college officials said. GU has held No. 1 since 2013.
