Here's some exciting news to get the week started: Sun People Dry Goods Co. is announcing the launch of their Community Lending Library. Participants in the program will be able to borrow books and DVDs donated from the greater Spokane area, after paying a one-time $5 registration fee, providing proof of identification and residency within Spokane County, and signing a borrowing agreement. The one time fee will be waived in lieu of an approved donation to the lending library.

“Part of the mission of Sun People to enhance the greater community’s understanding and awareness around issues such as sustainable living, climate change and peak oil. By making so many more books and films available to our customers, at little to no cost, we are hoping to have a greater impact during these tough economic times,” says Juliet Sinisterra, Co-Owner and General Manager for Sun People.

The concept for the Community Lending Library was based on community stores that are prevalent in more rural settings, such as Nash’s Organic Produce Store in Sequim, WA and on the Little Free Library model (www.littlefreelibrary.org) that is popping up in neighborhoods around the country and in Spokane like Peaceful Valley. All books and DVDs at Sun People that are available for check out will have an ecological or natural living theme.
