Tuesday Video: Why environmentalists need to care about abortion

Lisa Hyams points out that environmentalists don't like to talk about abortion - almost no one does. "But you can't have a sustainable society if women are having children they don't want," she says. We know it's better to prevent pregnancy in the first place so environmentalists can give props to Obama for recently making insurers cover the full cost of birth control. There's still more work that needs to be done - with sex education and better birth control - since contraception doesn't always work.

That said, abortion rights are in the crosshairs more than ever before. According to the Guttmacher Insitute, in the first half of this year, 80 restrictions on abortion were enacted in 19 states, more than triple the 23 enacted by states in 2010. (Check the chart above and their analysis.)

After the jump is a video from Guttmacher on who's having abortions in America. Hint: More than you think. Almost one out of every three American women will have an abortion by age 45.
