May is now officially Spokane Bike Month



The folks at Spokane Bikes - the group formerly known as Bike To Work Spokane - are compiling a master list for next month, to make May the official Bike Month. It all begins Sunday with the Commute Challenge and then the Elk Drug Droput Ride.

This list is insane. Details below:

May 1-31: Commute Challenge – How many people can you inspire to ride this month? Prizes are available to whoever gets the most friends/co-workers/family to register at www.spokanebikes.org; make sure they name you/your team as helper!

Sunday May 1 (3pm): Elk Drug Dropout Ride. Ride your vintage cruiser (or any other bike) from the Elk in Browne’s Addition to David’s Pizza and back.

 

Tuesday May 3 (6pm): Twilight Series Corsa Brutale Road Race. Info: baddlands.org.

Thursday May 5 (6pm): Spangle Time Trial Series. Measure yourself against the clock in “the race of truth.” Other races in the series: Saturday May 21, Thursday May 26, and Saturday June 4. Info: emdesports.com

Thursday May 5 (5-6:30pm & 6-8:30pm): Beginning Bike Maintenance. Register at www.rei.com/spokane; free
Saturday May 7 (11am): Liberty Road Race. Info:spokanerocketvelo.com

Thursday May 12 (7-8:30pm): Beginning Bike Commuting. Register at www.rei.com/spokane; free

Saturday May 14: Paint a mural on Fish Lake Trail. Contact traildan@comcast.net for more information and to volunteer.

Saturday May 14 (7pm): FBC Prom Fiasco. Wear your prom finest on this informal ride starting at The Swamp.

Sunday May 15: Lilac Century & Family Fun Ride. Many distance options. Start/finish at SFCC.

Sunday May 15 – Saturday May 21: Bike to Work Week.

Monday May 16 (7am): Bike to Work Week Kickoff Breakfast – Riverfront Park. Meet UnitedHealthcare pro cyclists and enjoy pancakes from Mountain Gear and Roasthouse Coffee.

Monday May 16 – Friday May 18: Energizer Station all week at Roasthouse Coffee.

Tuesday May 17: Twilight Series racing. Baddlands.org

Wednesday May 18: Morning Energizer Stations – map atspokanebikes.org.

Wednesday May 18 (6pm): Ride of Silence in downtown Spokane.

Friday May 20 (4:30 – 6pm): Bike to Work Week Wrap-Up Party! Hosted by Steam Plant Grill/Coeur d’Alene Brewing. Make dinner reservations and stick around after the party for some real food. MUST register at spokanebikes.org

Saturday May 21 (10am – 2pm): Bike Style Spokane Shopping & Treats at Roasthouse Coffee. Ladies, treat yourselves to chocolate, coffee, massage, & fun bike style clothing & accessories.

Tuesday May 24 (6pm): Belles and Baskets ladies’ ride. Fish Lake Trail.

Saturday May 28 – Sunday May 29: 24 Hours Round the Clock.Mountain bike race in Riverside State Park, runs noon to noon.
