The nail biter is over. Last night County Commissioner Bonnie Mager conceded to former Spokane City Councilman Al French. In yesterday's ballot counting, French opened ahead with 2, 752 votes, making one of the most contested local races a done deal. Below is a statement from Mager:

Dear Friends,

As there are only 750 votes left to count, it's time to bring our campaign to a close so that we can move forward from here.

I am so very grateful for the opportunity to serve as your Spokane County Commissioner.  I've been honored to meet and help members of our community and make a difference where I could.

Though I will not be returning for the upcoming term, I am proud of the things I accomplished while in office - with your feedback and support - and in particular the nearly 3 million dollars saved as a direct result of my leadership and efforts.

 I look forward to continuing my service to the community and will be exploring options once I leave office in January.

I have enjoyed working with so many wonderful county employees during my tenure and I thank the staff for their herculean efforts on behalf of our community, especially in the face of ongoing budget cuts.

Thank you all for your ongoing support during my term in office and most especially during both campaign seasons.  And to those who donated money to the campaigns, volunteered and voted for me, I offer my heartfelt thanks.  Your efforts, contributions and thoughts are sincerely appreciated.

Now that the campaign is completed, our newsletter will transition to a community-minded digest with updates about the County as I wrap up my term.  It will also be an additional information source as we move ahead with those issues that are near and dear to our hearts.
