DTE reports from the Gulf Coast

Not in a million years could we have known when we hatched an idea for a local environmental issues blog some three years ago that we'd be boasting about having a DTE representative reporting on-site from the worst oil spill in US history.

That said, we didn't have anything to do with actually making this happen, save for punching away at a keyboard for a year and keeping a dinky old WordPress blog afloat.  But still, it's a proud week around the "DTE offices".

"Dispatches from a Disaster" is a Paul Haeder creation.  And maybe we should take this time to remind you all that Paul Haeder is now a regular DTE columnist.  At any rate, Paul is the narrative choreographer for Marc Gauthier, Evergreen State College graduate in natural resources management, former owner of Natural Start Bakery, and creator of “From Controversy to Common Ground: The Colville National Forest Story.”  Marc left for the Gulf a week or so ago with a goal to try and make sense of the Deepwater Horizon oil disaster that’s spewing 210,000 gallons a day. After several weeks along the Gulf Coast, the chef-scientist-filmmaker will return with his own independent data, observations, interviews and conclusions, which he hopes will lead, among other things, to a film and greater awareness of the spill’s short- and long-term impact.

If you haven't been following it, we encourage you to check it out.  And please take a minute to thank both Marc and Paul Haeder for making this happen.  The results of this project thsu far are both honest and stunning.  The story these gentlemen are telling is the story that isn't being told by a majority of the media, even alternative media sources like our own who have decided to print this dribble and give weekly space to this nonsense. While the media is failing us, "Dispatches from a Disaster" gives us hope that the truth is out there.
