Great news procrastinators, the deadline to apply to be on the 2010 Green +Solar Home and Landscape tour has been extended through May 10, 2010!

Have you recently remodeled and decided to incorporate environmentally-friendly features and amenities? Have you recently installed alternative energy features like wind or solar? Are you living in a straw-bale-insulated home? If you answered yes to any of these questions, or are interested in them, this press release is for you:

Spokane GREEN + SOLAR Home & Landscape Tour Seeks Residential Projects

The second annual GREEN + SOLAR Home & Landscape Tour and Information Fair will take place Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, and organizers are accepting project nominations through April 30, 2010. The annual tour is comprised of new and remodeled projects showcasing differing sustainable design styles, construction strategies and lifestyle choices. Last year over 300 tour-goers visited a wide variety of projects throughout Spokane County.

“The tour is seeking to feature a wide variety of projects ranging from small do-it-yourself owner remodels to large contractor executed additions. We want to highlight all the ways homeowners can go green – whether it is a custom built strawbale home, a green kitchen remodel or an urban chicken coop designed with reclaimed materials.” says tour organizer Alli Kingfisher.

Frieda Morgenstern and John Brinton opened their home to the tour last year and won the annual People’s Choice Award. “We participated in the tour because we love our home and love to share what we learned about sustainable building with our neighbors. It was a great experience.”

Nominations of interesting residential projects for consideration in this years’ tour will be accepted through May 10, 2010. Entry forms are available by emailing: Allison.Kingfisher@ecy.wa.gov

GREEN + SOLAR Home & Landscape Tour is presented annually each September by the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild and the Washington State Department of Ecology. Read about last year’s tour at:
