Good afternoon from Copenhagen: DTE goes to D.C.
Last Friday in Washington, D.C., DTE was taking in all the inspiring history on a freezing but clear blue walk from the Lincoln Memorial, when a peculiar sight near the monument revealed itself: A 19-foot-ark constructed as a warning that if world leaders do not come to a strong plan in Copenhagen this is how we will live.
Organized by Avaaz.org and Faithful America, the groups said “while a ‘Real Deal’ is Climate Plan A, the ark depicts Climate Plan B and the lack of current options for a fair, ambitious, and binding deal out of Copenhagen.” On Saturday night construction was completed and both organizations held a candlelight vigil--- representing a diverse group of people of faith---and speakers discussed how religious communities are helping to raise awareness on climate change. The ark was one of some 3,000 simultaneous candlelight vigils in over 130 countries calling for a real deal in Copenhagen.

Side note: When walking the national mall from the ark to the Capitol Building, an angry kid screamed at his mom, “but I thought you said we were going to the REAL mall!” Understandable.
