"We Need Four New Saudi Arabia's to Maintain Current Demand"  - quote from a TreeHugger post earlier this week that refers to a recent report in The Independent where International Energy Agency chief economist Dr Fatih Birol stated that peak oil will to be upon us in 10 years and that "we will have to leave oil before it leaves us" in order to avoid a catastrophic energy crunch.

This information comes off the heels of the IEA's first-ever assessment of the world's major oil fields where they concluded that, "consumption of oil was 'patently unsustainable', with expected demand far outstripping supply".  Further in The Independent's report, Birol said, "even if demand remained steady, the world would have to find the equivalent of four Saudi Arabias to maintain production, and six Saudi Arabias if it is to keep up with the expected increase in demand between now and 2030."
