In today's David Horsey cartoon we take a closer look at the various claims and counter-claims being made about socialized medicine and discover a fact some may have overlooked in their haste to wave their banners of opinion.

Isn't Medicare socialized medicine? Or isn't it?

Then, in the interest of examining both sides of this thorny issue of socialized medicine, if we no longer had Medicare, what substitute(s) could we come up with to provide medical care for the retirees and financially indigent? If there were no Medicare what would we do for medical treatment upon retirement or financial despair? Would we simply turn them away in droves from the emergency rooms, which is about the only place left they could obtain service(s)?

Before we rush into/away from what has been termed "Obama-care", wouldn't it seem prudent to examine Medicare closely?
