Legislative limerick No. 1: House floor highjinks in the ‘respectful workplace’ era

Joe Palmer’s having a smile

Remote-control fart machine style

And what a success

Let’s embarrass the press!

House dignity? That’s sunk a mile.

Some context here: I wasn’t on the floor last week when a remote-control fart machine was placed under the press desk, but other reporters were; it’s been all over Twitter. The machine made loud noises during debate, prompting much sniggering. Rep. Joe Palmer walked by the press desk afterward and asked a male reporter if he was feeling OK, if he had an upset stomach, if he needed to go home. The reporter removed the machine from under the press desk and gave it to the speaker. Seriously. This happened.
