My Sunday column this week looks at Idaho Secretary of State Lawerence Denney’s request for a budget increase next year of more than 70 percent, with most of the increase coming in a major upgrade to the state’s election software system to allow more transparent reporting of campaign finances, lobbyist records and elections; concerns from House Democrats about Gov. Butch Otter’s proposed tax-cut bill, which the Dems say will “set Idaho up to be the next Kansas ;” and the latest on the state-funded expanded-access program that’s now allowing 34 Idaho children with intractable epilepsy to be treated with a commercial version of the marijuana extract through a drug trial.
