Idaho Secretary of State Lawerence Denney complimented legislative staffer Kristin Ford for her work to compile the various changes that lawmakers on a legislative work group and his office have suggested. He told the Legislature’s campaign finance and ethics work group this morning that the first draft, Draft 28, which includes eliminating all limits on campaign contributions in Idaho, was the first compilation.

“Then we sat down with Kristin and we had Brian Kane from the Attorney General’s office and our staff and we went through, and basically 27 is the draft that we came up with,” Denney said. “So Draft 27 is after we had talked.” It leaves campaign contribution limits in place.

Denney said there are still many changes contained within the draft, and to make it more clear what each change would do, he’d suggest rather than reviewing a whole proposed new section of law, the changes be broken out for review in strikeout and underline format, to highlight the changes. Denney said there are also still some issues to be worked out with some of the changes, including legal questions over how candidates can retire campaign debt after an election.
