F&G Commission Chair Naillon says he won’t reapply for post

Idaho Fish & Game Commission Chairman Will Naillon has announced he won’t reapply for his post, the Lewiston Tribune reports today. Gov. Butch Otter’s office announced earlier that Naillon and Commissioner Mark Doerr would have to reapply if they wanted another term; Otter’s also announced the openings and solicited applications.

Naillon said in a statement, “I believe that if the governor wanted me on the commission, he would have simply reappointed me. … I feel that reapplying would be somewhat redundant, as my voice for wildlife and representation of the sportsmen of Idaho has been well-documented over the last four years.”

Naillon said he plans to take Otter up on an offer to serve on a committee to select candidates to replace him, reports Tribune reporter Eric Barker. Doerr hasn’t yet made an announcement. The decision not to just reappoint the two commissioners has been widely seen as retribution for the commission’s refusal to go along with several GOP lawmakers’ push to allow large landowners to sell hunting tags and to make it easier for wealthy hunters to win coveted big game tags, Barker reports.
