Rep. Kelley Packer’s challenger raises nearly $43K
Jason West, a chiropractor from Pocatello, has raised a whopping $42,986 for his run in the GOP primary against Rep. Kelley Packer, R-McCammon, who’s been targeted this year by the Idaho Freedom Foundation after she sharply criticized the lobbying group. Packer is an office manager and a second-term state representative whom West derides on his campaign website as a “career politician.” She served on the McCammon City Council and as Bannock County GOP chair before being elected to the House in 2012.
West’s fundraising includes $1,000 each from Doyle Beck and Lynn Beck of Idaho Falls; $1,000 from Bryan Smith of Idaho Falls; $1,000 from Employers Resource in Boise; $1,000 from the Idaho Association of Chiropractic Physicians; and an array of others, including several from other chiropractors around the state. He also reported donating $15,000 of his own funds, and $5,926 in debt. Packer hasn’t yet filed her report; I'll add that info to this post when it's available.
West is the fourth-generation owner of West Clinic in Pocatello, which first opened in 1916. He said he’s running in part to fight against “crushing regulations.”
Packer reported raising $18,114 since Jan. 1, carrying over $14,358 from the previous year, spending $7,076 and ending the reporting period May 1 with $25,386 on hand. Her biggest contributions during the period were $1,000 each from three different Idaho firefighters PACs; $1,000 from Fred Wood; $1,000 from AGRA-PAC, which is associated with the Idaho Farm Bureau; $1,000 from Idaho Sugarbeet Growers; and $1,000 from IHCA-ICAL, the Idaho Health Care Association/Idaho Center for Assisted Living political action committee.
