Bedke says he’d like an up-or-down vote tomorrow on amended health care bill

House Speaker Scott Bedke says there are just a couple of options for the House on the health care bill, HB 644a: A conference committee with the Senate, a House vote up or down on whether or not to concur in the Senate amendments, or shunting it off to a committee and adjourning with nothing.

“I would prefer to take the bill up and have a vote to concur or not,” Bedke said. “That’s my preference as of 7:30 or whatever time it is tonight. I’m going to consult with my leadership team tomorrow morning.” Bedke said in addition to leadership, he’ll consult House committee chairs and vice-chairs, and try to get a sense of his GOP caucus. “Obviously this is a ticklish issue,” he said.

The option of a conference committee is off the table if the Senate adjourns sine die – and that’s exactly what the Senate’s preparing to do.
