Official results likely hours away for Dems’ caucuses, due to large turnout; anecdotally, Sanders winning big
If you’re looking for the early results from tonight’s Idaho Democratic presidential caucuses, you’re out of luck. Party spokesman Dean Ferguson said no results will be posted until all county caucuses are done – and Ada County, the largest one, started two hours late. So even though some counties are now done, there’s nothing official to report, and may not be until midnight or so.
Anecdotally, news reports show Bernie Sanders beating Hillary Clinton in caucuses in Bonneville County, Gooding County and Kootenai County. KTVB-TV reports that in Blaine County, where the caucus finished up half an hour ago, Sanders beat Clinton by a 2-1 margin.
In Kootenai County, S-R reporter Nick Deshais reports that Sanders took 76 percent of the vote in the first round, and turnout of 2,140 far exceeded the previous largest Democratic caucus in Kootenai County in 2008, when 1,200 people participated. You can read his full report here at spokesman.com. UPDATE: Deshais reports Kootenai County’s final counts from its caucuses are: Clinton with 493 votes (24 percent) and Sanders with 1561 (76 percent).
Twin Falls Times-News reporter Nathan Brown reports that Sanders won big across the Magic Valley, with 64% in Gooding County, 60% in Cassia, 66% in Minidoka, 69% in Blaine, 72% in Twin Falls and 77% in Jerome. You can read the latest AP report here. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that Sanders took 83 percent in Canyon County; their full report is online here.
