House names new chief clerk
House Speaker Scott Bedke today named Chris Taylor chief clerk of the House for the remainder of the session; Taylor, who started working for the Legislature in 2006, was assistant chief clerk. The previous chief clerk, Bonnie Alexander, is “no longer with the House,” Bedke said. Taylor’s appointment, read formally into the House Journal today, was effective on Wednesday.
Alexander started with the House as journal clerk in 2008, and was named chief clerk in 2009. Among the chief clerk’s duties is the high-profile of reading bills and other proceedings during House sessions; Taylor said she plans to cross-train and share that duty with journal clerk Carrie Maulin for the remainder of this year’s session.
