Caldwell rep wants zones for all community college trustee elections

Amid lots of questions, the House State Affairs Committee has agreed to introduce a bill proposed by Rep. Greg Chaney, R-Caldwell, to require community college trustees to be from five designated zones within the community college district, though they’d run at-large. Rep. Melissa Wintrow, D-Boise, questioned whether Chaney’s approach would “pit counties against” each other. The proposal includes provisions for when another county is added to a community college district; today’s move clears the way for a committee hearing on the bill, should one be scheduled.

Chaney told the committee, “Above all, this is a bill about promoting community-responsive educational opportunities throughout Idaho.”
