The budget for the central services division of the public  school budget doesn’t including any funding for state schools Superintendent Sherri Ybarra’s proposed rural school centers pilot program, for which she had requested $300,000. Sen. Dan Johnson, R-Lewiston, asked why not.

Rep. Wendy Horman, R-Idaho Falls, said, “Details were difficult to obtain when we were making decisions on what was to be included. I understand there was a bill ... that has not moved forward at this point.” Horman said she understands that Ybarra and others “are committed to … in the coming year develop further details that would provide us sufficient information to be comfortable funding that line item.”

The division's budget also removes a $1.4 million item recommended by both the governor and superintendent for revamping student achievement tests to match new state science standards, because the Legislature has rejected the new science standards. The budget motion passed on a 19-0, unanimous vote.
