Gov. Otter meets with Azerbaijan consul general

Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter last week met with the consul general of Azerbaijan to discuss trade, agriculture, technology and tourism. The Idaho State Journal reports (http://goo.gl/jGGl9N ) that consul general Nasimi Aghayev hopes the governor will send a trade mission to Azerbaijan. He also wants to promote his country on the Caspian sea as a tourism destination for Idahoans. Like Idaho, Azerbaijan relies heavily on its agriculture, energy and technology industries. Otter was unavailable for comment, but his office said the meeting was both an opportunity to discuss trade as well as a diplomatic courtesy because this was Aghayev's first trip to Idaho since he was appointed in 2012. A former Soviet republic, Azerbaijan declared its independence in 1991.
