Feds plan $1M worth of forest restoration work in northern Idaho
Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service is spending just over $1 million in northern Idaho to shore up areas scorched by massive wildfires last summer. The agency on Monday announced the plan for the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests aimed at stabilizing roads and trails, preventing erosion, keeping out invasive species and removing hazard trees. About 288 square miles of the forests burned due to nine wildfires. The agency says that's the largest number of wildfires in any national forest this fire season. Nez Perce-Clearwater spokeswoman Jeannette Dreadfulwater says the work involves 36.6 miles of trails and 306 projects on 38 Forest Service roads. She says much of the work is aimed at keeping the forests accessible to visitors by making sure roads don't get washed out due to erosion following the wildfires.
