Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Two parts of a patchwork plan aiming to raise $46 million for Idaho's crumbling roads and bridges have passed a House panel. The House Transportation Committee narrowly voted 9-8 on Thursday to move $16 million in fuel tax revenue currently funneled to the Idaho State Police and open it up for road maintenance. The proposals permit spending up to $10 million of general funds depending on new revenue growth. A second plan designed to raise registration fees by $15 per vehicle passed by voice vote. Chairman Joe Palmer says that he wanted the proposals to be as simple as possible in order to pass the full chamber. Still, the plans don't tackle the state's entire $262 million shortfall. Another House panel will consider a 7-cent fuel tax hike Friday morning.
