New version of concealed-carry bill would leave elected official exemption in place
A new concealed-carry bill is being worked up that would put back in the exemption for elected officials, reporters Idaho Statesman reporter Bill Dentzer. “The exemption is put back in,” bill sponsor Rep. Judy Boyle, R-Midvale, told the Statesman. “The majority of the House committee wanted that exemption left in for both public and elected officials because it has been there for so long.”
State law currently exempts city, county, state and U.S. officials and all publicly elected officials from the permit requirement. Boyle said legislative bill-writers were preparing the revised legislation, which will go before the House State Affairs committee; no hearing date has been set yet. This comes after legislation that would have removed the elected official exemption while making a series of other changes to Idaho’s concealed-carry law came in for heavy criticism from all sides at a hearing yesterday.
