AAA: All three road-funding bills miss mark, would actually worsen problem

AAA of Idaho says three last-minute road funding bills introduced in the waning weeks of this year’s legislative session would actually make Idaho’s situation worse, rather than fixing its road-maintenance shortfall. “None of the legislation drafted addresses the underlying problems with the state’s user-pay fees and taxes, which could threaten the long-term viability of transportation funding,” the motorists’ group said in a statement today. Studies have identified “major inequities between what cars and combination trucks pay” for roads in Idaho, AAA said.

The group said it put forth proposals a month ago for mileage surcharges, changes to the current truck registration system, and more, but none of those ideas are reflected in the three bills introduced in the past week. You can read AAA’s full statement here.
