Otter appoints Maryanne Jordan to Werk’s former Senate seat
Boise City Council President Maryanne Jordan has been appointed to the Idaho Senate to fill the vacancy created when Sen. Elliot Werk, D-Boise, was appointed to the state Tax Commission, Gov. Butch Otter announced today. Jordan was the top choice of three submitted by the legislative District 17 Democratic committee for the opening.
“I believe Maryanne has proven herself to be a dedicated public servant with a long track record of notable achievement and civic leadership,”Otter said. “I have every confidence that she will continue that laudable legacy as the newest member of the Idaho Legislature.”
Jordan has served on the Boise City Council since 2003; she and her husband Rocky have lived in Boise since 1994. “I would like to thank Gov. Otter for this appointment,” Jordan said. “Thanks also to former Sen. Werk for his long and distinguished service. I am honored and humbled to serve District 17 in the senate. Jumping in mid-session will be a steep learning curve, but I am confident that I am up to the challenge.”
Among Werk’s committee assignments was the Local Government & Taxation Committee, a spot Jordan will be uniquely qualified to fill with her city council background.
