School districts to get guidance on whether to apply for e-rate $$ themselves
Will Goodman, state Superintendent of Schools Sherri Ybarra’s new technology director, asked about the Idaho Education Network mess, said, “Right now we’re waiting to see the outcome of the lawsuit, and the last appeal the governor’s office has made. … We’re here to support the schools, so we’re going to release guidance for the schools … on what will protect them in case of any negative outcomes.”
Asked if that might include encouraging school districts to apply for federal e-rate funding on their own – in case the state Department of Administration is never able to regain the federal funds that have been cut off for the IEN or new ones in the future – Goodman said, “We’re going to release that later this week. You should see a letter coming out from the Department of Administration and also Idaho Education Technology Association with that guidance.”
